This prevents the virus from entering cells and prevents infection, thereby opening new avenues to prevent and treat the virus that has engulfed the world since 2020.
The researchers wrote that cannabinoids have a history of being safe for consumption and also have the potential to treat Covid-19 infection. It is to be noted that CBDA and CBGA are a part of the cannabis plant and do not have psychoactive properties like THC, therefore they do not give you the feeling of being ‘high’.
Dr. Richard van Breemen led this study and added that CBDA and CBGA blocked the virus as well as its new variants from entering the cells. The study suggested that hemp compounds were effective against new variants such as B.1.1.7 as well as B.1.351. The research tested the alpha and beta variants of the novel coronavirus.
Breemen noted that cannabinoids can be used effectively and developed into drugs for the prevention and treatment of Covid-19. He also believes that we need to find natural products with medicinal value. CBDA and CBGA can be consumed in different ways, such as orally or topically. It is used as a dietary supplement worldwide. As per Breeman, we can have oral administration in the form of a gummy or pill or even oil.
