At the beginning of 2018, when CBD was relatively new, people were apprehensive about using it due to the confusion caused between CBD and THC. But, with time people recognized that CBD and THC are different things, even though they are cannabinoids of the same plant. With the Farm Bill and the New Year in effect, CBD has undoubtedly become the first choice of people looking for an organic, vegan and non-toxic healer for a variety of diseases. There are still some questions that need explanation. And one of them is the difference between Hemp oil and CBD oil. The names of these oils can be seen at many online as well as offline stores. Sometimes these names are used interchangeably as well. These are different things though.
Hemp oil vs CBD oil: What is the Difference?
Because of the many varieties of Hemp and CBD products available from oils and edibles to bath bombs, you might get confused between hemp oil and CBD oil. Another reason for this confusion is also the species of origin of these compounds. Both of these come from the same plant Cannabis sativa. Even though they come from the same plant, they are different in four primary aspects which are.
The cannabis plant has more than 100 cannabinoids like CBD, CBG, CBN, and THC. Out of these, CBD and THC are the most popular compounds. Both hemp oil and CBD oil also have these cannabinoids. CBD oil, as well as hemp oil, has low THC content which makes them safe and non-psychoactive in nature. This means that neither CBD oil nor hemp oil can make you high. But, CBD oil and hemp oil differ in the CBD content. CBD oil has rich cannabidiol or CBD content, while hemp oil has a low concentration of CBD.
Parts Used To Produce Oil
Another major difference, apart from CBD concentration in the hemp oil and CBD oil is that it is derived from different parts of the plant. The seeds of the hemp plants are used to produce hemp oil, whereas CBD oil is produced from different parts of the cannabis sativa plant like leaves, flowers, and stalks.
Production and Extraction Method
Since both of them are extracted from different places, both oils have different CBD oil and Hemp oil techniques. Hemp oil is produced by a process called ‘Pressing’. This process is used to extract a number of other common oils like coconut, olive, sesame, and peanut. Pressing involves pressing the seeds of the particular plant to derive the oil. The seeds of the hemp plant are pressed in order to produce Hemp oil. CBD oil, on the other hand, is derived by a process called, ‘Solvent Extraction’. In this process, the cannabis sativa plant matter is passed mostly through CO2 or other solvents like alcohol or butane. This forced passage leads to the separation of different cannabinoids along with terpenes, and trichomes. The solvent retained is then evaporated to obtain CBD oil high in CBD content. So, both hemp oil and CBD oil have different extraction techniques.
Uses of Hemp Oil and CBD Oil
The last major difference between hemp oil and CBD oil is the way they are used. Hemp oil derived from the seeds of the cannabis sativa plant is not high in any particular compound. This is why it is mostly used as an edible or for industrial use. As a food product, it is high in fatty acids like omega-3 and omega-6 acids, critical vitamins like B1, B2 and E, protein, potassium and magnesium. For industrial purposes, it is used to produce products like facial bars, lotions, shampoo, biodiesel fuel, and paint. CBD oil, on the other hand, is high in CBD, which is known to be effective against a variety of physical and mental issues. Some of the benefits of CBD include moderation of bone growth, cancer cell growth, bacteria growth, sugar levels, nervous system, sleep, anxiety, stress, inflammation, arteries, seizures, convulsions, muscle spasms, nausea, vomiting, appetite, and chronic pain.
